Edge Grove Cricket Tour

After a four hour drive to Edge Grove School in Hertfordshire, we lost the toss and fielded first in a 20/20 match against St Columbus School.

In glorious sunshine the St Columbus batters played well on a good pitch and scored a total of 139 - 1.  Lukas Soeller was the pick of the bowlers, his off spin cost 16 runs off his allotted four overs and he also picked up the only wicket to fall.

Bramdean started poorly on the run chase, loosing two wickets in the first three overs.  Soeller was the 'rock' of the batting line up, whilst batsmen came and went, he fought hard to score 25 before being dismissed trying to up the tempo.  The innings collapsed to 60 all out and a loss by 69 runs.

after a good night's rest, the opponents were our hosts, Edge Grove School and the format was a 30 over game.

Bramdean fielded first again and bowled very well in dismissing Edge Grove for 79 runs off 22.1 overs.  Joseph Wreford (4-32), Tom Gulley (2-16), Lukas Soeller(2 - 17) and Bradley Hunt (1 - 9) did the damage.

The run chase started promisingly with Soeller and Elliott Butterfield putting on a solid opening stand.  However, very accurate bowling and excellent keeping saw us struggling at 40 -5.  Tom Gulley played sensibly and hit the ball hard during his innings of 26 and put on a partnership of 30 with Bradley Hunt.  The unfortunate run out of Gulley turned the contest back towards the home side and Bramdean were all out for 72 with Hunt remaining unbeaten on 20.

The rest of the afternoon was spent in the school swimming pool.  followed by a barbecue and ten pin bowling.

The boys had a fantastic weekend and we would like to extend a big thank you to one of our ex pupils, teacher and now Headmaster of Edge Grove, Mr Ben Evans, his wife and his staff.
