Sports Trip to Edge Grove

Friday May 19th 2019

Day 1
After a long journey , we arrived at Edge Grove School mid afternoon .
After settling in, both the girls and boys had a good warm up in preparation for their matches.
The boys faced a strong  St Columbus School side that opted to bat first in this 20/20 contest.
After amassing a total of 143 -3, with Danny Carroll being the pick of the bowlers, the pressure was on  Bramdean to respond positively.
At 45-1 with Butterfield and Carroll going well, the target was within our reach.  However, with the loss of the pair for 12 and 19 respectively the innings faltered and we were bowled out for 66.

The girls played Edge Grove at netball and cricket. They won the netball by  21 - 15 , with Charlotte Wreford in fine shooting form. They then played pairs cricket and narrowly lost by 6 runs.
Our hosts provided a delicious barbecue and after a brief team meeting and an hours relaxation, some weary children hit their beds.

Day 2
After a hearty breakfast the boys took on EdgeGrove in a 30 over game and the girls played rounders and netball.
In the boys game, the hosts won the toss and elected to bat first.  Bramdean started with real purpose and at 40 - 5, EdgeGrove were wobbling. We continued to progress our way through the order and at 80 - 8 were in the driving seat. However, EdgeGrove put together a 9th wicket stand of 40 and were eventually bowled out for 129 in the 28th over.
Frankie Follett, Oliver Broome and Harry Gulley picked up two wickets apiece and Danny Carroll, who bowled beautifully at the start, Arthur Hutchings and Louis Gulley were the other wicket takers. Follett also made two good catches and Raf Agtonong a run out.  Elliott Butterfield also did an excellent job behind the stumps.
The run chase started positively with Butterfield (16 )and Broome ( 3) putting on a partnership of 41 off the first ten overs. However, the loss of the pair just before lunch sparked a collapse after  and we were eventually bowled out for 67.
The girls played two games, one of rounders which resulted in a win for EdgeGrove and the other, netball where the teams were mixed up . Both games were played in great spirit and thoroughly enjoyed by all.
The afternoon was spent using the superb facilities at EdgeGrove. The girls made use of the two full sized trampolines and with Miss Sharps’ excellent guidance were performing impressive somersaults and shapes by the time the boys arrived after their game. Some of the boys also joined in and enjoyed the experience.
This was followed by a swim and fun games in the outdoor pool.
The evening was spent at Hollywood Bowl where the children showed off their ten pin bowling skills.  They split into three groups and each lane got very competitive.  Danny Carroll, Harry Gulley, Frankie Follett and Gabrielle Wright came out on top in their respective games.

Day 3

After breakfast, we made the long journey back to Exeter and there were some very tired children by the time we arrived .
A great time was had by everyone and a huge thank you to Mr Evans, who is the Head Teacher at EdgeGrove and ex Bramdean pupil and teacher.  Also, his wife Alex for hosting us and making our stay so enjoyable.

I would like to finish by saying how well behaved and polite our children were. There were many comments from the Edge Grove staff complimenting the children on their good manners.

Well done!
