As part of our on-going programme to promote instrumental playing at Bramdean, classes from Kindergarten to 5B recently had the opportunity of listening to, seeing and trying the violin and viola.
A local professional teacher and performer, Mrs Julie Hill played a variety of pieces and talked to the pupils about the instruments and how the sound is produced. After her demonstration and an opportunity for questions, pupils who showed an interest in learning the violin or viola had a chance to try them out, learning how to hold them properly and use the bow.
Last term the pupils had a woodwind instrument demonstration and in the near future, we hope to arrange brass and percussion sessions.
Bramdean School recognises the benefits of learning an instrument, which are widely documented, and actively encourages pupils to benefit from the opportunities available to them.
